Sports Performance Coaching for Athletes and Teams
When we begin our sporting careers, we usually have a picture of what success looks like. If that picture doesn't materialise as we have imagined, we call it failure. But perhaps we take account too soon.
Former Ireland Rugby coach, Joe Schmidt would tell his players, “play the game in front of your face.” This is wonderful advice because it asks us to ignore ideas and concepts of success and just play the game. The psychological skills of high performance help us internalise and activate this idea in a very practical way.
To Be Your Coach…
Theory is important, but experience is essential. To be an effective coach and guide you successfully towards your best, there must be relatability and understanding. I've got to know what it means to commit to a goal way out there on the edge of achievement, and to both succeed and to fail. I have got to have been where you want to go.
The mental game is challenging, perhaps more so than the physical challenge. However, if you are prepared to go to the depths within yourself and truly find out who and what you are, then you will most certainly succeed.
